Remember Me

REMEMBER ME
by Jay Kruizenga

The sorrow felt by those you knew,
A grave oft' visited  worn and new,
Flowers planted watered by tears,
Seasons passed o'er several years.

Leaves now cover the fallen sod,
Squirrels scurry where no man trods,
The stone memorial no longer seen,
Covered beneath a grave of green.

Who now looks for your silent grave?
No stone to remember or so they rave,
Near graves whisper this is the place,
Your loved ones here but in disgrace.

Remember me for I am here,
Raise my stone, and memory revere,
I lived, I breathed, and then I died,
I want to speak with ancestral pride.
